The life of the artist max lacher


 The painting artist Max Lacher lived almost all his life in Munich / Bavaria / Germany.
Millions of people have seen and enjoyed works made by him, without knowing the designer.
At the Munich Marienplatz ( Marien Square ) the facades of the department store “Beck”, the bakery “Rischart’s Backhaus”, the coffee shop “Alte Wache”, and the Bavarian restaurant “Donisl”, the restaurant in the mayor hall “Ratskeller” the “Sumpf”, were created by the painting artist Max Lacher.
In the cathedrals of Munich and Land shut/Bavaria some of the painted glass windows were designed and made by him. Many other public Buildings in Germany, like hospitals, sanatoriums’, indoor swimming halls, and churches have paintings from him.
After visiting the Munich art academy at professor Julius Diez, he went 1926 to Paris, to complete his art studies. These studies have been very important for his creative development.
Back in Germany he worked first in Hannover, later in Berlin, mainly painting and selling portraits of various people and children.
He returned in 1930 to Munich. Here he received 1931 the “Albrecht Duerer Award”.
During the very difficult depression years he painted handwritings and decorated shop windows.
1935 he received his first decorative order from the German mail and post office.
Since that he obtained more and more orders for designing house facades and painted glass windows.
This secured his living and influenced his future development as an artist.
During the nazi regime he refused to participate art exhibitions.
Since he refused to be a “Partei” member he had no chance to become professor at any art university in Germany. 1940 he was forced to enter the German army as an infantry soldier in France, later he became interpreter for French language at courts of justice.
Almost all his prewar painting burned and were destroyed during a bomb attack in 1944.
As a member of resistance group he was 1945 sentenced in absence to dead.

After world war II he rebuilt a new studio and started working again
He researched as an artist different working procedures, he loved the altercation with materials.
These experimentents took influence on his future works.
Besides his decorative work his importance as a fine art painter increased. He created many important and beautiful paintings in black and white and in colors. He produced many watercolor pictures. lithographs, printed paper sheets, etching art sheerest in black and white, and in colors.
His paintings where exhibited in many galleries in Germany and other European countries.
Besides his creative work he did management work in different artist unions.
He was for some time president and CEO of the “Haus der Kunst”, the largest exhibition hall in Munich.

1962   Max Lacher received from the city of Munich the “Seerosen” award
1969   Max Lacher received from the state of Germany the “Bundesverdienstkreuz”
1985   Max Lacher  was honored by the city of Munich with the medal “Muenchen leuchtet in Gold”

Important works:

A number of paintings were bought from the Bayerische Staatsgalerie ( Bavarian state galleries ), the Stadtmuseum Muenchen (City Museum of Munich ) and the Grafische Sammlung Muenchen
( the state collection of graphic arts Munich).
Many private collectors are happy to own from him fine art paintings, water colors, portraits, behind glass paintings, lithographs, drawings glass cuts, prints and etchings.
His frescos can still be seen in Munich and other cities in Germany, in and on public buildings, churches and chapels.
His painted glass windows in the cathedrals of Munich and Land shut/Germany attracted attention, and proof his power of creativity and fantasy.
